Timetable
Fitting side work between fixed departures
Before choosing side work, it helps to see your week as a timetable. Some departures are fixed and can't move. Side work has to fit around them, not the other way round.
Mark the fixed departures
- Working hours and commute
- Meals, school runs and family time you won't give up
- A latest bedtime that protects your sleep
Find the crossings
Whatever is left between fixed departures is a possible crossing. Write each one down with its real length, for example "Tuesday 20:00 to 21:30".
Pick two or three
Don't try to use every crossing. Choose two or three a week to start with, and leave the rest for rest, illness and the unexpected.
Review after a month
Check how many crossings you actually used and whether any fixed departure was missed. Adjust before adding more.
